2020 Spring Baseball Season Update!

First and foremost, we hope that you are and your family are safe and healthy.  This experience has been one that none of us could have ever imagined and, while things seem to be improving, they are not near where we hoped they would be when we postponed the season 6 weeks ago.

We realize many of you are anxious to get back on the field and out of your houses, but the announcement from Governor Abbott on April 27 indicated that it is going to continue to be a slow process. His mandate stated that outdoor sports will be limited to 4 people and that social distancing guidelines still apply.  Even if that order is relaxed later in the month, odds are it will not be near enough to allow for a baseball game.  With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the season to give everyone some closure and an opportunity to focus on more important things.  The following should answer most of your questions:

Thankfully, the Governor did not extend the stay at home order which means we will be able to continue with the raffle drawing on May 2.  For those who need to turn in ticket stubs, we will have a bin in front of the office which will be available during park hours from Wednesday - Saturday.  The office is located between the big baseball fields (10-13) and the playground at Lindsay Lyons.  (A map of Lindsay Lyons can be found on our website).

The drawing will be broadcast on Facebook Live at noon on Saturday.  Winners will be notified after the drawing via phone and/or email so arrangements can be made to pick up their prize.

As far as refunds go, we have weighed every option and there is no easy way to do it when you have to account for 900+ players.

Refund amounts will range from $20 - $180 depending on age group and discounts that were originally applied to your account.  Unfortunately, raffle and buyout fees will not be refunded because these are considered fundraisers.  While we understand that games were not played, expenses were still incurred for uniforms, credit card fees, raffle prizes, insurance, equipment and field maintenance.  These fees will be covered with the fundraiser which will allow us to refund all other registration and late fees in full.  In addition, we will be increasing the early bird discount for Fall Registration from $20 to $50.  (More info. will be provided when fall registration is announced)

We hope to start the refund process later this week, but we are waiting on the software company to finish implementing changes that will allow us to refund directly back to your credit card. We have been told the changes should be in effect by the end of the month.  Please note that there are more than 900 players and each refund will have to be processed individually so we appreciate your patience.  Once your refund is processed, you will receive a cancellation email along with a confirmation of refund.   For those who paid with cash or check, a check will be mailed to you.  An email confirmation will be sent to you, as well.

There was some interest in having fees credited to next season vs. receiving a refund.  We explored this option, but our software does not allow credits to automatically apply to future payments and individual coupon codes cannot be processed.  So as much as we wanted to offer this option, there is really no way to do it that would make sense.

Fall League

At this point, it is hard to say when things will be back to normal, but we are all hopeful that it will be soon and we fully expect that there will be a fall season.  We may not start quite as early as we have in the past so watch your emails and our Facebook page for updates.   Registration could still open up as early as July and we want to make sure that all players have an opportunity to take advantage of that increased early bird discount!

Finally, we know there may be some disappointment about the refund amounts, and we hope you understand that HABA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  All Board Members are volunteers and we have no paid employees.  We try to be fiscally responsible and all funds paid to the league are used solely for the purpose of operating the league.  All improvement projects have been put on hold to allow us to remain solvent with the reduction in revenue for this season and that will allow us to issue refunds and still cover our expenses.  It is worth noting that buyout fees may be tax deductible since no raffle tickets were received in return.  Please contact your tax professional for more information.

We appreciate all of you who have given your time this season and we are sad that this is the way things will end.  This is not what we wanted but it is the right thing to do.  Stay safe and thank you for being a part of the HABA community.
